Fifth Annual Roatán Underwater Photo Fest0
The fifth annual Roatán Underwater Photo Fest will be held November 2 – 9th, 2019 at Turquoise Bay Resort.
Spend a week improving your underwater photo and video skills in Roatán with Brandi Mueller and Andrew Raak.
Roatan is a fantastic location for underwater photography with a variety of subjects from healthy reefs, interesting underwater cavern systems, and all sorts of marine life from sharks to tiny macro critters. Easy diving conditions – warm water, good viz, mild or no current – make it a perfect place to “go slow” and try different techniques without the pressure to swim “fast” around a reef and see as much as possible. There are always subjects to shoot, big and small!
All levels of photographers are invited. We offer 2-3 dives each day, afternoon and evening lectures, editing sessions, and one-on-one training. At the end of the week is a friendly photo contest with amazing prizes from our fabulous sponsors. Join us next year!
Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort is located on the northeast shore of Roatán and the only dive resort in this lush and remote area of the island. The resort is set on a hillside with spectacular ocean views and a protected bay which makes the water calm and perfect for swimming and kayaking. Beach lovers will enjoy a private, tranquil, white-sand beach. Subway Watersports take divers to uncrowded, pristine dive sites and experienced dive guides take care of divers and their photography equipment, while pointing out the best photo subjects.
At Turquoise Bay Dive & Beach Resort you will enjoy the very individual and personal service that only a small dive resort can offer. Friendly local staff takes pride in getting to know guests and making them feel at home.

Brandi Mueller is a photographer and writer aiming to document and share the beauty of our planet, particularly the underwater realm. She is an obsessive traveler who has been to more than 60 countries and dived over half of them, but loves returning each year to Roatan to re-visit some of her favorite underwater photography dive sites. She loves sharing her travels and adventures in hopes they will inspire others to take up diving or become more aware of the ocean environment.
Brandi fell in love with the ocean at an early age and studied marine biology at the University of Tampa and continued on to the Universtiy of Hawaii for a Master’s degree. Throughout her studies she was usually working part time at a dive shop. She also worked several years for Aggressor Fleet and currently spends part of the year working on the Truk Odyssey liveaboard in Chuuk, Micronesia. The rest of the time she spends traveling and diving all around the world.
Andrew Raak is an award-winning published underwater photographer and experienced underwater photography instructor. He has a marine science degree from Coastal Carolina University, is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor and holds a USCG 200 ton captain’s license. He has been diving all around the world for both his own training and working as a dive instructor, boat captain, and underwater photographer.
Most recently, he has been teaching diving aboard luxury yachts in the South Pacific, and dive resorts from the eastern USA to Indonesia. Each year at the RUWPF Andrew brings his latest collection of underwater photography gadgets and toys and the amazing images he gets using them. His goals include continuing to grow as a diver, photographer, and educator while showing the world the importance of our marine environment.
