Find your perfect fit in our Hawaiian style bikini bottoms, all are cheeky, seamless and comfortable. Enjoy them both in the surf and for some beach day lounging. Create your own look by mixing and matching them with all our new range of beautiful and hardware free tops!
Our swimsuits are made from recycled fishing nets and regenerated dead-stock fabric which use less water and fuel to produce than most swimwear materials. We manufacture all of our goods from our base in California in order to manage quality more efficiently as well as reduce our carbon footprint.
An integral part of our business is to give back to mother earth and our community. HICA aims not only in making positive changes in the fashion industry but is also dedicated to ocean and marine life conservation and well as empowering women through positive body image.
HICA is a social business which means that there is an enduring principle at the heart of what we do: people’s choices of what we buy and wear have the power to change the world.
WHY SHOP ECO-FRIENDLY
The problem we are facing today…
Every year, around eighty billion garments are produced worldwide which ends up consuming about 1 trillion gallons of water, 33 trillion gallons of oil, and 20 billion pounds of chemicals annually, making fashion the 3rd most polluting industry in the world.
Processing raw materials and manufacturing clothing uses an extreme amount of water, not to mention the use of nonrenewable fossil-fuels. Often times during the manufacturing process, pollution is not only emitted into the air but the toxic runoff from dye houses are actually then sent back to our rivers, lakes and oceans further harming the environment and human health. These statistics are grim, especially when over a billion people don’t have access to safe water.
How we can make a difference…
There is a two-part solution to making the fashion industry more sustainable. Part one is what the industry can do and part two is what the consumers can do.
Both shoppers and the industry alike can make positives changes by:
Reducing: Choose products that use fewer natural resources, purchase (or in our case create) items that are made to last and which also create the least amount of waste possible.
Here at HICA we really pride ourselves on the quality of your bikini. We want you to be able to wear your swimsuit for many seasons to come. Furthermore, we want to be conscious of the impact we have on our earth and instead of contributing more to the problem, we want to create better solutions. By manufacturing close to our base in Los Angeles, not only are we able to manage production more efficiently, but we are also able to ensure safe and ethical practices of these production sites. We are also able to significantly reduce our carbon footprint by choosing not to produce overseas.
Reusing: Choose packaging that has been previously used or that can be used in another way after you’re through with them.
We have teamed up with Eco-Enclose to create packaging that is not only made from post-consumer waste but is also bio-degradable! You can also use our packaging again to ship a care package to your grandma…oh, hello grams!
Recycling: When available, purchase items that can be recycled, or that are made from recycled content.
We have chosen to use fabric that has been regenerated from fishing nets gathered from several regions of the world. During the regeneration process we are not only able to make beautiful new fabric, but we are also able to reduce water and oil consumption significantly less than when producing virgin swimwear fabric.
Although we are a small swimwear brand, we plan on reducing the harms of pollution and reversing the tide in anyway possible, whether it is in the swimwear we create or within our community. Eventually, we would like to expand to create a greater variety of eco-friendly and socially responsible products that we can enjoy for years to come. Afterall, if we don’t maintain our beautiful beaches, oceans and amazing earth where will we be able to enjoy our HICA bikinis anyways? Just know that not only do we give you BIG LOVE for each purchase, but Mother Earth also be like, thank you for caring!
