Dunbar Rock operates 2 dive boats: the 45 ft/14m Freedom and 40 ft/12m Endeavor, each with capacity for 16 divers. Boats have platforms for giant stride entries and wide sturdy ladders for exiting the water, purified drinking water, fruit for snacking, fresh water showers, camera rinse tanks, dry storage, shaded areas and all required safety equipment. The boats depart at 8:30 am for the morning 2-tank dive, returning for lunch with the afternoon dive following.
The friendly and professional staff pride themselves on not just being your guides but your dive concierges, so plan on leaving the lifting, hauling and packing of all the diving gear to them! The team will carefully carry your gear onto the boats, prepare it for the dive, change it over for the second dive, and rinse and store it at the end of the day. Your only assignment while on board is to do a check to make sure you have all your gear before you depart, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
Guanaja is the new “must-dive” destination in the Caribbean, with 50+ named dive sites and more being discovered every day. Where you dive on any given day is often determined by the weather. However with dive sites ringing Guanaja and nearby cays, it is nearly always possible to find sites located in the lee of the wind. From the moment you take that first giant stride off the boat and peer below, you will awed by what a reef system looks like that has had little to no diver impact. Diverse, vibrant and thriving, the exceedingly healthy sites include caves, canyons, pinnacles, walls and wrecks, most notably the Jado Trader.
Seven night ALL-INCLUSIVE packages include 3 gourmet meals daily plus happy hour snacks, Standard Bar Package (Includes our very tasty local beer, house wine, well liquor of vodka, rum, tequila and whiskey, Happy Hour “Drink of the Day”, juice and soft drinks,) free Wi-Fi, 15% government and 4% tourist tax, complimentary use of sea kayaks, boat transfers to and from Guanaja airport. Diver package includes five days with 3 dives daily, 2 dives on Friday.
If you define a perfect dive vacation as one including no crowds – except perhaps the one you bring with you….not having to dress up for dinner, concierge dive service and a reef system you can practically call your own, it’s time to pack your bags and head to the Villa on Dunbar Rock.

The Villa on Dunbar Rock offers customer service second to none! From the moment we arrived into Guanaja, we were greeted by friendly, happy & helpful people. The Villa staff, who all had smiles on their faces, greeted us as friends and were always close by to assist with any of our needs; from bringing our luggage from the boat dock to our room, to making sure we had enough to eat and that we enjoyed what was served, to having our dive gear on the dive boat every morning – truly a full service resort.
After a good nights sleep, we were off for our days diving. We saw some of the most beautiful reefs I’ve seen so far, in my diving experience. The reefs were healthy and full of life. We saw some southern stingrays, some large grouper, angelfish, spotted eels, lots and lots of juvenile and intermediate tropicals, spotted drums, lots of parrotfish, large crab and lobster. Most of the fishlife is in the top 30 feet, deeper than that it is more wall and reef structure
The food was amazing! The chef prepared a variety of food from local cuisine with fresh homemade tortillas at breakfast each morning to homemade guacamole & salsa each dinner.
As all good vacations must came to an end and goodbyes are exchanged amongst fellow guest, the Villa staff went above and beyond a simply goodbye; they all stood together holding signs that said “See you soon!”. What a wonderful way to end our stay. The Villa on Dunbar Rock is on my must return to list and I will see you soon, my friends.

Imagine this. Waking up with an unbelievable view (seriously, every room has an amazing view), walking to the main room for some delicious breakfast. Then casually strolling down to the dock to step onto the dive boat where you’ll find all your equipment set up and ready to go. A short trip, two amazing dives with an incredible dive team, then back to the dock where you just step off the boat and go up for a shower and head to the main room where lunch will be waiting for you. In the afternoon you can snorkel around the rock or relax in the infinity pool or do whatever you want. After dinner and some drinks, go to sleep to the sound of the ocean. Wake up and do it all again.
This rock is a hidden gem. The staff are amazing. They literally take care of all your dive equipment everyday from setting it all up to washing and drying it afterwards. I could get used to being this spoiled!
If you are a diver (or even not!) this place is a must see. You will fall in love with it. I can’t wait to go back!
The dive sites themselves are amazing. A lot of the sites are only visited by the dunbar rock dive time, so you’ll have the chance to dive nearly untouched waters. Definitely no crowds!
One of the best dive resorts I’ve been too
